Pilar Zapata is a Colombian-born international director based in Mexico and Montreal with more than 10 years of experience in the advertising, music, content and fiction industry. Pilar works for different production companies around the world: Whiskey Films (Latam), MediaMonks (Latam), We are Hero (Mexico), La Tuna Group (Monterrey), Proyectil (Colombia), NatgeoLA (Latam), Estudios TeleMexico, WildHorse Studios (Argentina – Canada), Tonic DNA, (Canada) and AVP (Hong Kong).
Her passion for cinema and other artistic forms have led her to have a successful film and narrative career, working in different countries for leading global brands such as Fox and Natgeo and for different artists in the areas of advertising, television, digital content, and music videos, with which she has gained recognition in important festivals such as the New York Festival, Fiap, P&M, El Dorado, Nuestra Tierra, Mi Gente TV, Music Video HTV. In the year of her debut, she was nominated and awarded as the 1st finalist of the New Filmmakers Award of Iberoamerica, El Ojo de Iberoamérica.
Pilar has also dedicated her career to the study of different techniques of directing actors, screenwriting and film directing in New York, Mexico, Canada and Cuba.
In 2009 she founded the production company Chiquita Films; in 2013 she directed the successful web series “Adulto Contemporáneo” that caught the attention of the media, the audience and advertisers for speaking about an ignored social niche, creating a cultural concept that is part of the Colombian daily life.
In 2014, the Mexican production company Rojo Films hired her exclusively, so she settled in the city of Mexico City for several years. In 2006 she participated in Bam Projects with the project of her Opera prima 32123. Today Pilar spends half of the year working in Mexico and the other half on projects in Canada, Colombia and around the world.
